Growing up

Last night, a friend was telling me that she is feeling down. This friend of mine is working as a nurse in one of the hospital. She has to work in operating theatre dealing with cancer patients. Every now and then she will see dying patients and this affects her alot. On hearing that, i recalled one of the hrm module that i m taking now. There is a part on emotions in the workplace. My tutor explained that pple in occupations like nurses, social workers etc experience some of the greatest emotional labour. As their job requirement, most often they have to portray a different feeling from what they actually feel inside.... meaning when they feel sad, they have to portray that they are happy. Overtime this leads to emotional dissonance.

Hmm..i cant help much cos i m not in her shoes n didnt go thru what she experience... so can only offer my listening ears. But i certainly do hold high respect for pple in these profession.
I guess i m not suitable for such jobs....the emotional labour is too much for me to bear.

This issue also made me ponder over something....when we are young, we always yearn to grow older.....but when we grow older, we yearn to be young again. How ironic life can be!
